Our surroundings have an impact on us. We all know color can change your mood, but a well-designed home is more than wall paint and throw pillows.
For example, an entry that functions can keep you from nagging at your kids to pick up their stuff. Less nagging equals more time for positive interaction, which in turn leads to better communication, which leads to stronger relationships, and you can see where I’m going from here. How you live in your house with your family helps to establish how you – and your kids – show up in the world.
Does the right pair of jeans change how you feel about yourself? Do you see a different kid when he or she picks their own clothes versus putting on a school uniform? The same principles apply to our surroundings. We can shape our home environment such that it mirrors the way we want to feel in each space, and the alignment of self and home impacts more than we can imagine.
“Make your home as comfortable and attractive as possible and then get on with living. There’s more to life than decorating.”
- Albert hadley
Yes, you could hire someone to decorate your home for you or you could copy that one room you saw on social media (or - depending on your generation - in a magazine). Neither of these options really result in a home that reflects the people who live in it. But what if you partnered with someone to make your home feel interesting, functional, and beautiful? And what if in the process, you learned how to be your own designer so that as your family’s needs change, your home can too?
What will you get?
Personal attention and ownership in your own design process.
A disruption to the frantic pace at which we all feel driven to get things done.
A clear understanding of how you want your home to feel and how to achieve that feeling on your own time and within your own budget.
Starting Investment: $975 for 10 hours of design time
“We’ll have so much fun and get to be life-long friends!”
- Patty Simcox
Sometimes though, people really do have one-off questions that they would love to ask a live decorator rather than Google. Questions like “Should I use an 8’x10’ or a 9’x12’ rug in this space?” Or “Which chair is better for my living room - the pink or the beige?” Or “Does the style of this console table work with my existing furniture?”
When really, truly single questions come up, I’m here for you. And because I want you to be here for others, all I ask is that you make a donation to The Conscious Kid’s Anti-Racist Children’s Books Education Fund as payment forward for an answer.
Because diverse readers make strong leaders, y’all, and I am passionate about young readers and young leaders.
Have a quick question on the fly? You can also find me in Instagram stories on the first Friday of every month for #FancyFriday, where I will take your individual questions in exchange for a donation to a highlighted non-profit of the month.
